Our yard saw a lot of change this summer and fall.
One stormy morning, we lost the rest of our storm-stunted front-yard Basswood tree.
The tree trimmer beat the winds to it this time while he was here taking down a large Ash that had died from disease.
It took all his amazing speed and precision to finish with the high bucket before the lightning got too close. Only the first few rain drops hit him while finishing off the trunk at ground level.
We miss that beautiful shade tree. The birds miss it too. All these years on the couch, that has been one of our daily views - birds flitting in and out of the big, shiny leaves.
(In the background of the above photo you can see another change in the yard. Our sheep barn, which had collapsed under snow some years ago, is in the final stages of clean-up!)
On the south lawn (and all over at different times) we enjoyed regular promenades of our local wild turkey mother and growing babes.
And a huge change began as Dad drove the office truck and cable plow into the yard for the last time on August 22nd - wrapping up a fiber-optic job just days before finalizing the sale of his family's 70 year old, small, independent telephone company. More about that later...
